Grace Park Talks Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica's Grace Park is no stranger to Sci-Fi, her resume includes stints on The Immortal, Stargate SG1, Jake 2.0, Andromeda, Outer Limits, and, surprisingly, more. She is probably best known for her role as the Cylons Boomer, Athena, Sharon ad infinitum. BuddyTV was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to sit down with Grace to discuss Battlestar Galactica's past, present, and future as well as the intricacies of playing a character with the most extreme multiple personality disorder on TV today.

BuddyTV: How did you first get the role of Boomer?

Grace: I just went in for a regular audition for the role of Dualla actually, who is played by Kandyse McClure and did a short little scene. The director wasn’t there but I guess he saw a tape and when he saw it he said, “Get her to come back in for Starbuck.” So I went in for Starbuck and did the first part against Katee down in LA because I did the other part up in Vancouver. Jamie Bamber was also there because he was going for Apollo and they were doing the two characters next to each other. And at the end of the day they narrowed it down to me and Katee, and Jamie and another guy and they told everyone else to go home. And then they couldn’t decide so they told us to go home. I think we had to wait a week and they called back. I had a bad feeling that I didn’t get Starbuck, but my agent told me, “But I have this character Sharon.” And I thought, “Sharon? Who’s Sharon? I don’t want Sharon.” I only wanted that other role. So in the end I ended up having [Sharon] Boomer, which I totally love and I couldn’t even imagine being Starbuck anyhow. And of course, Katee wanted to be Sharon, so it all works out.

BattleStar Galactica RPG coming!

Margaret Weis Productions has reached an agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to produce roleplaying game products based on the enormously successful, critically-acclaimed television series, Battlestar Galactica.

"When we established our company we made the commitment to produce character- and story-focused role playing games using the best source material we could find," says Margaret Weis, New York Times best-selling author and game publisher. "Battlestar Galactica is the kind of science fiction that we do best, where the drama and characters are more important than the guns and the gadgets. The very survival of the human race is at stake in the series and exploring the story possibilities in the setting can make for some very exciting games."

Battlestar Galactica is the Emmy-nominated television series brought to the small screen by Executive Producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. In the United States, the program can be seen weekly on the Sci-Fi Channel. This hit show captivates its audience as an aged battleship leads a ragtag civilian fleet away from a terrifying enemy - the Cylons - and toward hope on a mythical world called Earth.

Like the show, the role playing game book is set in space and will focus on the challenges of survival in exceedingly trying times - and the difficult choices that must be made. The core product, the Battlestar Galactica Role Playing Game, is a self-contained game product using the same game system as the best-selling and award-winning Serenity Role Playing Game (also produced by Margaret Weis Productions). The game book will be a full-color hardcover book featuring still images from

the series as well as original artwork. It will provide rules for play, character creation, and information about the ship and crew of Galactica as well as the other main characters from the show. A Quickstart Guide will be released in early 2007 with the core product premiering in the spring. Additional products will closely follow the release of the core product. The entire line will be supported by an interactive website.

Lost Writer Takes on Battlestar Galactica

My favorite LOST writer, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, has now written a comic book miniseries called Battlestar Galactica - Cylon Apocalypse . Dynamite Entertainment is releasing the first of the four part comic book miniseries in February of 2007. The series is based on the original Battlestar Galactica TV series and begins with the bizzare scene of Cylon Raiders attacking one of their own Basestars. Something even stranger happens next and the Cylon Apocalypse begins! Javi keeps his fans updated through his blog at http://chaodai.livejournal.com/. He also has a website called Radio Free Javi which links to a very funny series of videos called Ask Javi! where he answers questions from his fans. Javier Grillo-Marxuach also writes for the TV show: Medium and is responsible for the new comic book series called The Middleman.

David Eick's Heading "Them"

David Eick, the executive producer of 'Battlestar Galactica,' is teaming up with director Jonathan Mostow and writer John McNamara to develop a new sci-fi show currently titled 'Them'. The sci-fi invasion show is slated for the Fox Network.

Accoring to SciFiWire, the project is based on the graphic novel 'Six.' Eick and McNamara are writing the script, which involves extraterrestrial terrorists who take human form. The twist is that human emotions act as a kind of drug for the aliens. Mostow is quoted as saying, "On a surface level, it's a really cool science fiction thriller. But underneath, it's a very provocative show that's really going to explore what it means to be human, to be a person."

No word on how, or if, Eick's alignment with FOX will impact BattleStar Galactica Production.

Starbuck Makes the Jump to the Big Screen

Katee Sackhoff, who plays StarBuck on the new Battlestar Galactica will be scene on the big screen sequel to White Noise which will be released, theatrically, in January.

Sackhoff told SCIFIwire that she jumped ant the opportunity to play a character as far removed from her day job as ace fighter pilot Starbuck. In the film, Sackhoff plays a nurse named Sherry, whose life is saved by a man (Serenity's Nathan Fillion), who, having cheated death himself after his family is murdered, helps those about to die.

Sackhoff claims that the sequel is "a great story. It's all about death's design and when it's your time to go and what you have to do rectify the situation when you get saved. It's very interesting. I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard great things about it, and I'm just really, really excited to see it."
